The Lifespan of Your Favorite Flowers

The Lifespan of Your Favorite Flowers

How Long Do Different Flowers Last?

One of the best things about bringing home fresh flowers is enjoying them for days to come. While every flower is unique, many of the blooms we use in our Floricity bouquets are selected because they have an excellent vase life.

Here is a guide to some of our most common flowers and how long you can expect them to last with proper care.

Long-Lasting Favorites (10 to 14 Days)

These flowers are known for staying beautiful the longest and are some of our favorite staples in Floricity bouquets.

Alstroemeria

Also known as the Peruvian lily, alstroemeria is one of the longest-lasting cut flowers. Each stem produces several blooms that open over time, so your bouquet continues to change and grow throughout the week.

Lilies

Lilies often arrive with closed buds that gradually bloom over several days. This means you get to enjoy fresh new flowers as the bouquet matures.

Carnations

Carnations are incredibly dependable. They hold their shape, color, and texture well, making them one of the longest-lasting flowers you can have in a vase.

Chrysanthemums (Mums)

Mums are famous for their impressive vase life. Their full blooms add beautiful color and texture while staying fresh for up to two weeks.

Solidago

This cheerful yellow filler flower adds brightness and movement to a bouquet. It pairs well with almost any flower and stays fresh for many days.

Beautiful for About a Week (7 to 10 Days)

These flowers are classic favorites that continue to shine with just a little care.

Roses

Roses slowly open into full, beautiful blooms over several days. Fresh water and regular stem trimming will help them last even longer.

Snapdragons

Snapdragons bloom from the bottom of the stem upward, allowing new flowers to continue opening as older blooms fade.

Sunflowers

Sunflowers instantly brighten any room with their bold color and large blooms. While they may have a slightly shorter vase life than some other flowers, they make a big impact while they are on display.

The Flowers That Keep on Giving

Some flowers and greenery continue looking beautiful long after fresh blooms have faded. Many of these can even be enjoyed as dried flowers.

Eucalyptus

Eucalyptus dries naturally while maintaining its beautiful shape and soft fragrance, making it perfect for displaying long after your bouquet has finished blooming.

Billy Balls (Craspedia)

These bright yellow blooms dry beautifully and keep both their shape and vibrant color for months.

Blue Thistle (Eryngium)

Blue thistle is one of the toughest flowers we use. Its unique texture and rich blue color make it just as beautiful dried as it is fresh.

Tips to Help Your Flowers Last Longer

A few simple habits can help you get the most from every bouquet.

  • Trim the stems before placing them in water.
  • Use a clean vase with fresh water.
  • Change the water every two to three days.
  • Remove any leaves below the water line.
  • Keep flowers away from direct sunlight, heat sources, and ripening fruit.

Enjoy Every Bloom

One of the best parts of a mixed bouquet is watching it change over time. Some flowers bloom right away, while others slowly open throughout the week. That means there is always something new to enjoy.

At Floricity, we carefully select flowers that are both beautiful and long-lasting, so you can enjoy your bouquet for as many days as possible.
